Research Network

Space+Place+Socity is a research network aiming to encourage productive discussions among researchers who are interested in contemporary urban issues, the socio-political dynamics of production of urban space, place-making and welfare and well-being. The network organises academic and semi-academic events such as talk series, roundtables, screenings and discussion sessions.

Bilge Serin

Bilge Serin is an urban researcher with a diverse background including urban development, urban design, politics and architecture. Bilge did her PhD in Urban Studies at Heriot-Watt University on the contemporary development of housing enclaves in Istanbul and currently working as a research associate at the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE), University of Glasgow. Her current research interests are representations of urban space in mass media, imagination and representation of housing futures, everyday life in controlled living environments, and the dynamics of contemporary commodification urban space.
Ana Miret

Ana Miret Garcia, PhD doctoral researcher at Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh), M.Arch. (ETSAM, Madrid), MSc Urban Geography (UCM, Madrid). I am a chartered architect and urban designer, founding partner of Cuartoymitad Architecture & Landscape. I am visiting critic at Design Studio, ESALA, Edinburgh. I have been visiting faculty at the school of Architecture,Technische Universit├Ąt, Graz and ESAYA, UEM, Madrid. My current research explores the emergence of street and urban vitality in new in non-central residential areas. My research interests include creativity in urban design processes, participatory approaches to urban design and innovative strategies for public space design.
Jenny Wood

Jenny Wood is a Research Associate in the Institute of Social Policy, Housing, and Equalities Research (I-SPHERE) at Heriot Watt University, where she also recently completed her PhD on children's rights in the Scottish town planning system. Jenny's current research focuses on homelessness and extreme poverty in the UK, and she has also been involved with a number of third sector partners on live planning projects and professional training. Jenny's passion is human rights and social justice, and this underpins her research interests in the past, present, and future.
Luca Brunelli

Luca Brunelli is Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, GSA in Glasgow. He previously taught architectural design and urban design at ESALA, UoE, at UCH-CEU School of Architecture in Valencia (Spain), and as visiting lecture at the University of Panama. He holds a MArch from Turin Polytechnic (Italy), a MSc in Housing and Development from DPU, University College London, and a MRes in City Planning from School of Architecture in Madrid. He is currently completing a PhD in Urban Studies at EGIS, Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. His research adopts a mixed methods, multiple case study design to explore how everyday life and individual and collective well-being of older people can be supported by local high streets.
